LUXURY LANDSCAPING
A Bali-Inspired Luxury Backyard Remodel in West Sacramento, CA
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Creating a Bali-Inspired Backyard Escape in West Sacramento
This West Sacramento backyard project transformed a blank developer-built yard into a Bali-inspired outdoor retreat. The design focused on creating a resort-style experience with layered planting, water, shade, fire, lighting, and custom outdoor living features that made the space feel immersive, private, and memorable.
This $875K backyard build included a swimming pool and spa, sunken fire pit, modern outdoor kitchen, extruded aluminum patio cover, floating composite wood walking path, synthetic turf, retaining walls, imported palm trees and plants, outdoor lighting, strip lights, an outdoor shower, and decorative rock enhancements. The result is a standout backyard that still creates a “wow” reaction years after completion.
Completed a $875K backyard build in West Sacramento designed to feel private, resort-inspired, and unforgettable.
01 – Pool, Spa & Sunken Fire Pit
Building the Pool, Spa, and Sunken Fire Pit
The backyard was built around a swimming pool and spa, giving the space the foundation of a private resort. These features turned the blank developer yard into a place for relaxing, cooling off, and enjoying the outdoors with a more immersive Bali-inspired feel.
The sunken fire pit added a dramatic gathering area and helped make the backyard feel usable after sunset. Because of its design, permitting required extra planning, but the result became one of the project’s most memorable features.
02 – Outdoor Kitchen, Patio Cover & Shower
Installing the Outdoor Kitchen, Patio Cover, and Outdoor Shower
The modern outdoor kitchen created a dedicated space for cooking, serving, and hosting outside. It helped turn the backyard into a complete outdoor living environment rather than a space centered only around the pool.
The extruded aluminum patio cover added shade, structure, and a strong architectural element to the design. The outdoor shower added another resort-style detail, making the space feel more functional, polished, and connected to the Bali theme.
03 – Composite Path, Turf & Retaining Walls
Adding the Floating Composite Path, Turf, and Retaining Walls
The floating composite wood walking path gave the backyard a distinctive resort-like detail while helping guide movement through the space. It added warmth and contrast against the pool, turf, planting, and decorative rock enhancements.
Synthetic turf created a clean, usable green area that stays polished with lower maintenance. Retaining walls helped shape the backyard layout and gave the design the structure needed to support the different outdoor living zones.
THE TRANSFORMATION
Before & After
Before the Perella Estates project began, the backyard was a blank developer-built space with no defined outdoor living areas, planting character, or Bali-inspired resort feel.

CRAFTSMANSHIP
Outdoor Features That Shaped the Perella Estates Transformation
Custom Pool Environments
Swimming pool and spa designed as the main backyard feature, creating a resort-style space for relaxing, entertaining, and year-round use.
Outdoor Kitchens & Dining Spaces
A built-in outdoor kitchen added a dedicated area for cooking, serving, and hosting without pulling guests away from the backyard.
Covered Outdoor Living
A modern extruded aluminum patio cover added shade, structure, and a clean architectural detail that fits the home’s modern farmhouse style.
Patio & Walkway Design
A flagstone patio helped define the outdoor living areas while adding natural texture and a refined finish to the space.
Refined Turf Solutions
Synthetic turf created a polished, low-maintenance green area that keeps the backyard usable and visually clean.
Estate Planting Design
New planting softened the hardscape, added depth around the pool and patio areas, and helped the front yard feel more polished than the original developer install.
04 – Imported Planting, Lighting & Rock Details
Completing the Bali Theme With Planting, Lighting, and Decorative Rock
Imported palm trees and tropical-style planting were used to create the feeling of Bali in a climate that does not naturally support many Bali planting materials. Large 40-foot palm tree installations required careful handling and helped give the backyard its signature resort atmosphere.
Outdoor lighting, strip lights, and decorative rock enhancements completed the experience after sunset. These details added depth, mood, and texture, helping the backyard feel intentional, immersive, and memorable from every angle.
